How to add an eBook to iBooks

The iBooks application supports eBooks that are stored in the EPUB format. This lesson will demonstrate how to load a book in EPUB format onto your iPad so that you can read it in iBooks.

Select Books in iTunes

Launch iTunes and select Books in the left-hand column.

At this point you can drag and drop an EPUB file into the content area of iTunes or select the file using the File menu. Let's look at how to add the book using the File menu.

Choose File > Add to Library...

Select eBook

Locate the eBook file and open it.

The eBook will appear in the list of Books. I've added Anderson's Fairy Tales.

Sync iPad

After you sync your iPad the books will appear on the shelf in iBooks. Tap on it to begin reading.

I found some instructions for creating an EPUB file by searching for "converting book to EPUB format" on Google. Take a look at this link in particular: http://www.lexcycle.com/faq/how_to_create_epub
